FAQS

The Compliance Collective is more than a collection of legal documents—it’s an ongoing legal partnership for fitness business owners.

As a member, you’ll receive proactive legal guidance, annual updates to your core agreements, monthly legal education, compliance alerts, and exclusive member resources designed to help you navigate the legal side of running a successful fitness business.

Instead of reacting to legal problems after they arise, the Compliance Collective helps you stay informed, stay compliant, and protect the business you’ve worked so hard to build.

How is this different from hiring an attorney as needed?

Most business owners don’t think about calling an attorney until a problem arises. The Compliance Collective is designed to help you stay ahead of legal issues—not just react to them.

As a member, you’ll receive ongoing legal education, annual contract updates, compliance alerts, and attorney access based on your membership level, giving you proactive support throughout the year instead of starting from scratch every time a question comes up.

Members receive annual updates to legal agreements originally drafted by Gym Lawyers, including your:

  • Liability Waiver
  • Membership or Tuition Agreement
  • Staff Agreement

These annual updates are designed to keep your agreements aligned not only with changes in the law and industry best practices, but also with the way your business evolves. Whether you’ve added new services, expanded your programming, updated your policies, or changed your operating procedures, we’ll work with you to ensure your agreements continue to accurately reflect your business.

If your current agreements were not drafted by Gym Lawyers, they aren’t eligible for annual updates. Instead, your membership includes one annual contract drafting or redlining credit that can be used toward having one agreement professionally drafted or reviewed by our team. Once a Gym Lawyers agreement has been created, it becomes eligible for future annual updates while your membership remains active.

Growth and Legacy members receive private attorney consultation calls with Gym Lawyers as part of their membership—a benefit that would otherwise cost $475 per consultation.

  • Growth Members: receive two consultation calls per membership year.
  • Legacy Members: receive one consultation call each calendar quarter.

These calls can be used to discuss legal questions, contracts, business decisions, compliance concerns, risk management, or other legal matters related to your fitness business.

Consultation calls must be used during the applicable membership period and do not roll over if unused. They’re designed to encourage proactive legal planning and provide timely guidance throughout the year.

Your annual contract drafting credit can be used toward virtually any contract drafting or redlining service offered by Gym Lawyers.

Common examples include:

  • Liability Waivers
  • Membership or Tuition Agreements
  • Staff Agreements
  • Independent Contractor Agreements
  • Partnership Agreements
  • Operating Agreements
  • Buy-Sell Agreements
  • Demand Letters
  • Existing Contract Reviews & Redlines

If you choose to use your credit for redlining an existing agreement, it includes one comprehensive review and markup of the document. Ongoing negotiations, revisions, or back-and-forth with the other party are not included and, if needed, can be handled as a separate engagement.

The annual drafting credit does not apply to commercial lease review, redlining, or negotiation, as commercial leases often require a more extensive review and negotiation process.

If you’re ever unsure whether a project qualifies, just reach out—we’re happy to help you determine the best use of your annual credit.

Your annual contract drafting credit becomes available after you’ve been an active Growth or Legacy member for three (3) consecutive months.

This waiting period helps ensure the benefit is reserved for active members while allowing us to build an ongoing relationship with your business before completing more extensive legal projects.

Once your drafting credit is unlocked, you may use it anytime during your membership year in accordance with your Membership Service Agreement.

Live webinars are held on the third Wednesday of every month and are designed to help you navigate the legal and business challenges of owning a fitness business.

While legal compliance is at the heart of what we do, we know it takes more than great legal documents to build a successful business. That’s why we’ll cover topics related to operating, growing, buying, selling, and protecting your business, while also bringing in trusted industry professionals to share their expertise.

Topics may include:

  • Legal compliance and risk management
  • Employment and HR issues
  • Insurance and liability
  • Taxes and financial planning
  • Business development and marketing
  • Buying and selling fitness businesses
  • Leadership and operations
  • Industry trends and best practices

Every webinar includes a live Q&A, giving you the opportunity to ask your own questions, hear what’s keeping other fitness business owners up at night, and gain practical insights from experienced attorneys and industry experts. It’s like having regular access to your legal team—without scheduling a private consultation.

Can’t make it live? No problem. Every webinar is recorded and added to your member portal, where you can watch (or rewatch) sessions anytime as part of your membership.

Our goal is simple: to help you become a better, more informed business owner—not just a more legally compliant one.

Absolutely! As your business grows and your legal needs change, your membership can change too. Simply contact our team to request an upgrade or downgrade, and we’ll update your membership beginning with your next billing cycle.

Absolutely. While we’ll be sad to see you go, you may cancel your membership at any time by providing 30 days’ notice. If a regularly scheduled payment falls within your 30 day notice window, we will take that final payment. Your membership and benefits will remain active through the end of that final billing period, after which your subscription will end.

If your legal needs change in the future, we’d be happy to welcome you back.

Absolutely. In fact, the Compliance Collective isn’t really about legal documents—it’s about helping you become a more proactive business owner.

Yes, your membership includes annual updates to your core legal agreements, and that’s incredibly valuable. In our experience, more than 85% of the legal documents we’ve reviewed over the past five years contain significant deficiencies or are missing important fitness industry-specific protections. Keeping those documents current is an essential part of protecting your business.

But that’s only one piece of the puzzle.

As a business owner, you can’t afford to approach legal issues the same way you approach other areas of life. You hire a divorce attorney when you’re getting divorced. You hire a personal injury attorney after you’ve been injured. Business ownership doesn’t work that way. The most successful business owners are proactive—they identify risks before they become expensive problems.

That’s exactly what the Compliance Collective is designed to help you do.

Beyond your legal documents, you’ll receive ongoing legal education, compliance updates, practical business guidance, and access to trusted industry experts covering topics like insurance, taxes, marketing, business development, and more. Our goal is to help you make better decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and build a stronger, more resilient business.

Because protecting your business isn’t a one-time project—it’s an ongoing process.

Whether you’re just beginning to prioritize your legal compliance or you’ve worked with us for years, the Compliance Collective is designed to provide ongoing education, proactive legal guidance, and the resources you need to confidently grow your fitness business.

If you’re new to Gym Lawyers, welcome—we’re excited to partner with you!
